A full patent, from filing to grant
A patent gives you the exclusive right to make, use, sell or import your invention in India for up to 20 years from the filing date. The invention must be new, involve an inventive step, be capable of industrial application and not fall in the excluded categories, such as mathematical methods, business methods or software on its own.
The complete specification is the core document, with a detailed description and claims that define the scope of protection. After filing, the application is published after 18 months, examined on request, and the examiner’s report must be answered. We draft the specification, file the application, prepare responses and follow it through.

Common questions
How long does a patent last?
Up to 20 years from the filing date, if renewal fees are paid every year.
How long does it take to get a patent?
It varies widely. Examination happens only on request, and the process often takes several years, depending on objections and the technology.
When must I request examination?
For applications filed on or after 15 March 2024, within 31 months from the filing or earliest priority date. For older applications, 48 months. Missing the deadline can cause the application to be treated as withdrawn.
What is a first examination report?
It is the examiner’s report listing objections. You usually have 6 months to reply, extendable by 3 months. This is a key stage, and we prepare the response.
What cannot be patented in India?
Examples include mere discoveries, mathematical or business methods, computer programs per se and some other categories. We assess your invention against these.
Should I file a provisional first?
Often yes, if the invention is still developing. We help you decide between a provisional first and a complete application right away.
