Consultancy Agreement in Ranchi

Whether you hire consultants or work as one, put the terms in writing. We draft clear agreements covering scope, fees, confidentiality, ownership of work and exit.

Overview

A clear brief and a fair deal

A consultancy agreement sets out what a consultant will do, how long, how much they will be paid and who owns the work. It makes clear that the consultant is an independent professional, not an employee, which affects tax, labour law and liability.

We draft agreements for businesses hiring consultants and for professionals offering their services. We cover scope of work, deliverables, payment terms, confidentiality, intellectual property, liability, termination and dispute resolution.

FAQs

Common questions

Is a consultant an employee?

No. A consultant is an independent contractor who decides how to do the work and is paid for results, not a salary. The agreement should reflect this. Real working arrangements also matter.

Who owns the work the consultant produces?

Only what the agreement says. Without a clause, the consultant may own the work. We add IP assignment or licence terms for your case.

Can a consultant be stopped from working for competitors?

Restrictions during the engagement are common. Post-termination non-compete clauses are generally not enforceable in India, so we draft reasonable confidentiality and non-solicit terms instead.

Is TDS deducted on consultancy fees?

Often yes, when the payer is a business and the fee crosses the limits. We flag it in the agreement.

Do I need stamp paper?

Agreements may need stamping depending on the state and nature of the document. We confirm what applies.

This page is general information, not legal advice. Around Tax is not a law firm. Laws on stamp duty, registration and taxes vary by state and change over time, so we confirm the current position for your document before we begin. For disputes, litigation or complex cross-border matters, we recommend you also consult an advocate.
