NGO Registration in Ranchi
Start your non-profit on a strong legal footing. We help you choose between a trust, a society and a Section 8 company, and take care of the registration and the follow-up approvals.
The right structure from day one
“NGO” is not a single legal form. In India a non-profit is usually set up as a trust, a society or a Section 8 company. Each has its own law, registering authority, running costs and compliance burden.
Choosing the wrong structure can create problems with donors, grants and taxes later. We help you decide, then complete the registration and prepare you for the approvals that make fundraising possible: 12A, 80G, NGO Darpan and, if you want corporate funding, CSR-1.
Which NGO structure suits you?
- Trust: simple to start, run by trustees under a trust deed. Suits family-led or small charitable work
- Society: member-based, with a governing body, general body and elections. Suits community and membership organisations
- Section 8 company: corporate structure with MCA oversight and more compliance. Often preferred by CSR funders and larger projects
- Any NGO should have clear charitable objects, honest office-bearers and a registered address
- Wanting foreign contributions? That needs a separate FCRA registration, which we can advise on

Common questions
Is “NGO registration” a single registration?
No. NGOs are registered as trusts, societies or Section 8 companies. The right one depends on your objects, size, team and funding plans.
Which is better: trust, society or Section 8 company?
Trusts are simplest, societies suit member-based groups, and Section 8 companies carry more compliance but often win more trust with CSR and large donors. We help you compare.
Can an NGO earn money?
An NGO may charge for services and earn income, but it cannot distribute profits to its members or trustees. Income must be applied to its objects.
What do I need besides registration to receive donations?
Most donors expect 12A and 80G registration. Grants and CSR funds often need an NGO Darpan ID and, for CSR, Form CSR-1 registration.
How long does registration take?
It depends on the structure, the authority and how quickly documents are ready. We give you a realistic estimate when we start.
This page is general guidance as we understand current law and procedures. Rules, forms, fees and due dates change, and many details vary by state, so we confirm the latest requirements for your organisation before we begin. India’s new Income-tax Act, 2025 applies from 1 April 2026, so form and section numbers may change.
